Group of Teraguchi Oshimi Tumuli (Teraguchioshimi Kofungun)
At the east foot of Mt. Katsuragi, there are many groups of tumuli. Some of them are keyhole-shaped tumuli, presumably made in the middle or end of the tumulus period. This era extends from the end of the 3rd to the 7th century. Some of them are small tumuli about 10 meters in size. Katsuragi City (old Shinjyocho Town) has some very famous groups of tumuli such as Tumulus of Teraguchi Senzuka (Teraguchisenzuka Kofun), Group of Fuefuki Tumuli (Fuefuki Kofungun) and Group of Yamaguchi Senzuka Tumuli (Yamaguchisenzuka Kofungun). Group of Teraguchi Oshimi Tumuli (Teraguchioshimi Kofungun) is one of them. Judging from the distribution of the tumuli, it is divided into three groups; Northern, Central, and Southern groups. It is estimated that more than 150 tumuli were made originally. Some excavated relics show that the tumuli were made from the latter half of the 5th century to the beginning of the 7th century.
