Yashikiyama Tumulus (Yashikiyama Kofun) appointed national historic spot
The Yashikiyama tumulus is a keyhole-shaped tumulus in the west of Shinjyo Junior High School. It is 135 meters long, and was made around 470 AD, the latter half of mid tumulus period.
Kuwayama Kazuharu was promoted to Daimyo because he had taken sides with the Tokugawa. Establishing administrative headquaters here, they utilized the whole construction of this tumulus. The moat of the tumulus was used as that of the castle. At Katsuragi History Museum, you can see the Nagamochigata Sekkan, a stone coffin shaped like a nagamochi - a large oblong chest- a dug out from the Yashikiyama Tumulus.
