Mt. Nijyo (Nijyosan)
Mt.Nijyo consists of two peaks, Odake (517 meters high) and Medake (474 meters high). They are referred to in Manyoshu, Japan's oldest anthology of poems. Every year many hikers visit this mountain. It is one of the best local hikes. From Medake Peak, one has a grand view of the Nara Basin and Osaka Plain.
Every year, “Dakenobori (peak climbing)” is held on April 23. People start from five different points to ascend to the top.
Sanukites that were used to make stone tools during the stone age are found here. It is considered to have been an active volcano once.
