Common wisterias seen in Japan are Wisteria floribunda, also known as Japanese wisteria, and Wisteria brachybotrys.  Wisterias are familiar blossoms for Japanese from ancient times, and they appear in Kojiki, Records of Ancient Matters and Manyoshu,  Japan's oldest anthology of poems.
