ぼたん

Peonies were brought from China during the Nara Period.  They were first grown for the medicinal use.  After the Tang dynasty, they started to be considered as the “King of Flowers” and have become the object for poems and art.  We hold the Peony Festival during the blooming season in Katsuragi City. There will be lanterns placed on the road approaching the Taimadera Temple and around the Sekkoji Temple.  There is also the popular parade called Taimadera Nerikuyo, held on May 14.

The peony is Katsuragi City's officially designated Flower.
