Princess Chujyo (Chujyohime)
Princess Chujyo was a daughter of Fujiwarano Toyonari, a minister, who lost her mother when little, and was brought up by her step-mother. She was hated by her step-mother and her life was threatened many times. Instead of hating the step mother, she continued to copy and recite sutras wishing for the happiness of all human beings. As she wished, she became a nun in the Taimadera Temple and decided to weave a Taima Mandala (a chart to show the enlightened state). She gathered threads from lotus and dipped the threads in the well at the Sekkoji Temple. Then, the thread turned into five different colors. Using the threads, she wove a mandala of 4 meters each side in one night. She continued to preach the lessons of enlightenment, and believed to have become a Buddha while she was still alive at the age of 29.
